Capturing it, I sucked up cranberry juice and vodka and considered this dilemma. I put my elbow to the bar, my head in my hand and I aimed my mouth at my straw. Through this I sat there thinking firstly, that Joe freaked me out a bit considering he could come up behind me and I never heard him coming and secondly, that I didn’t want him taking me home. ![]() “Yeah,” Colt replied, grinning at her then he slid off his stool, lifted a hand to squeeze the back of my neck, he nodded to Joe and Morrie then he took off. “Great, Cal, thanks,” Colt muttered, I looked from Joe to Colt and watched Colt call to the back of the bar, “Feb, baby, got a callout.” “Yo Cal,” Morrie greeted as I stared at Joe. I twisted on my stool, looked up, up, up and saw, standing behind me, Joe Callahan, his hair longer and more unruly, wearing his black leather jacket, a black t-shirt stretched across his wide chest, faded jeans and black motorcycle boots. “I got her,” a deep, rumbly voice said from behind me. ![]()

I could almost predict the words that were going to come out of his mouth. Ian Taylor’s character did EVERYTHING that I expected him to do. I personally found it hard to relate to any of the characters in the story, although to be fair, as Grace began to experience her sexuality for the first time I remember having some of the exact same thoughts she did about what was clean and what was dirty, and what kind of person I was for enjoying them. Rose is able to feel Lissa's emotions through her bond and can sometimes enter her body without Lissa knowing when her emotions are too strong. Her best friend is Princess Vasilisa Dragomir (Lissa), a Moroi and the last of her line, with whom she has a nigh unbreakable bond. Rose and other dhampir guardians are trained to protect Moroi and kill Strigoi throughout their education. There are good and bad vampires in their world: Moroi, who co-exist peacefully among the humans and only take blood from donors, and also possess the ability to control one of the four elements - water, earth, fire or air and Strigoi, blood-sucking, evil vampires who drink to kill. To cut a very long story short, the second volume in the series arrived instead of the first (and trust me, that cover is much worse than this) but by that point I’d committed myself, so I got hold of the first book just so I could say that I’d given it a go. ![]() Naturally such a comparison caught my attention and, despite slight misgivings, I went ahead and ordered it. I’d never heard of the series but reviews were glowing, promising wonderful characters and breathless adventure and one reviewer even suggested that readers looking for something similar should try the Lymond Chronicles.
